Is it worth investing?

JD asked:

I have recently had my first child and I am setting up a child trust fund for him. One option is to put the money into a share hold account where a reputable bank invests the money into shares.

My question is - is it is worth pursuing this course with the current economical turmoil?

Buy some gold coins/bars and put them in a safety deposit box.

Probably one of the best times, though I’d wait until dec, jan when the markets usually are at their lowest levels of the year.

remember when your investing in shares it is for medium to long term. Is this the money from the government (UK) . If so I think it given to the child when they turns 18 so this would be a long term investment.

No, this does not sounds like a good idea.

    What country are you in?

If you are in the USA, you would want to open a College IRA.

I don’t trust banks to be good investors of money. Turn on the TV for a few references.

I have them for my boys, I have never added anything to them as I’m wary of them - don’t know why probably because the government is behind it, But you may aswell as you don’t have anything to lose. If you don’t do anything with them the government will just do it on your behalf and send the paperwork through from whoever they entrust the money to!
I have another account for my boys(Personal) and I looked all over for a good account and the best deal with the most interest was Halifx gold saver account, They get about £70 per annum in bonuses and interest now! Money for nothing - can’t be bad.
Good Luck, hope you manage to get it sorted.
